June 21, 2014
It rained all night and continued to
rain this morning so we all slept in – well, for us anyway –
0700. It continued to rain all morning. There we a lot of special
activities planned all over Alaska as the Summer Solstice is a huge
event/party here. However, the rain in our area put a damper on many
of the plans.
So after moving and a quick sandwich
for lunch we headed into town to the Alaska SeaLife Center – a good
thing to do on a rainy day. The center rescues orphaned sea animals
as well as performs research and education. There were some very
good displays and large aquariums for the various animals such as sea
otters, sea lions, harbor seals, and aquatic birds. We really
enjoyed the Center and would recommend it to all. BTW – it is in
the TourSaver book, so only costs $20.00 admission for the two of us.

By then the rain had stopped and we walked around town, visited a few
shops, visited Mile 0 of the Iditarod Trail, and then drove out to Lowell Point. We really like Seward.
After that we went to The Salmon Bake Restaurant for an early dinner. We all
four had the same – Captain's Platter – which had grilled salmon,
halibut nuggets and fried prawns with corn and baked potatoes. Once
again, we didn't wait to get a picture before we dove right in. It
was all very good in spite of the slogan on their menu!
Thank goodness each couple decided to share a
platter because we had ample food. We can highly recommend this
restaurant that is on the road to Exit Glacier. The food was cooked
perfectly and service was good as well.
Tomorrow we will probably listen to the
sermon from last week from our home church via the internet. We
haven't found a service that begins before 11:00 here in Seward and
we want to be hiking before then.
Thanks for following along with
our adventures and we love to read your comments.
For RVers following:
(rant) We are not very happy with the
Stoney Creek RV Park here. There are not many choices in Seward with full
hookups. We specified full hookups when we reserved our site.
However, when we arrived we were given a different site. It did not
have sewer connection. After returning to the office we were
assigned another site to move to today. Check out time is 12:00 so
we waited until about 11:45 for the person to move off our new site.
However, after he left and before we could raise the jacks and pull in
the slides to move, another RV was in the site. Back to the office
and – “Oh, we changed you to another site because those two wanted
to be next to each other.” But we could go ahead and move to the
other “new” site because “it was not occupied last night so
it's empty.” So why weren't we give that site yesterday? And
why did we have to waste a morning waiting for someone to leave? Management did not seem the least bit concerned about the mix-up or inconvenience to us. Anyway, if you are coming here, the campground is really OK, (even though the WIFI is too slow to be useable) – just
be sure there is no misunderstanding regarding what you want and
expect. (end rant)
