We awoke this morning again to rain -
heavy rain for a while. After breakfast we waited for a break in the
rain and then left for Anchorage. It was actually less than 20 miles
to the campground we choose because it was convenient to the airport
and has full hookups. Eagle River is much more our kind of park but
did not have full hookups. There was suppose to be water at Eagle River so we did not arrive at the park with a full tank of water
Thursday. Unfortunately the water was not working so we could not
continue to stay there – we were almost out of water. We are now at
Ship Creek RV park in Anchorage. As things happen, this mornings
storm took out some power lines and a transformer so when we arrived
here we had water but no power. That meant we had to run the
generator this afternoon to get things done we wanted to do for Barry
and Donna's arrival. It also continued to rain intermittently so we
just explored Anchorage a little by car – got our bearings,
found the airport, etc.
Barry and Donna had a very stressful
day as shortly before they left for the airport this morning they
received an email saying their flight was canceled and they were
rescheduled for tomorrow. They were able to get United to rebook
them on Delta so they were able to make the trip today. However,
they had a totally different schedule, with closer connections, 3
plane changes and a lot of stress. We were very glad so see them
when they arrived! It was only about an hour later than originally
planned. They are very tired but also very excited to be in Alaska.
So after gathering them and their luggage we made a quick stop at
Dairy Queen for a late dinner for them and ice cream for us and then
to their home for the next 3 weeks - Fred. Barry is already asleep as
it is after 1:00 am in Alabama – and the rest of us will be soon
because we are anxious to be on our way for our new adventures
starting tomorrow.
