Day 33: Muncho Lake - Boulder Canyon

May 17, 2014

This morning we rolled out of bed at 0530 because wildlife viewing is suppose to be so much better in the early morning. In the past we have found this to be true. If memory serves we were up at 0400 to go find the wolves at Yellowstone and find them we did. They walked down the road just in front of our car. Well, the wild life at Muncho Lake must like to sleep in on Saturday because we saw nothing this morning.

Back at Fred we had a nice breakfast and then went to Boulder Canyon for another hike.

We love this hiking in the Rocky Mountains!! So beautiful. So peaceful. This hike was similar to yesterday's in terrain – a little steeper in areas, and more snow in areas.
There were stone sheep on the mountain tops staring down at us. We had to work our way around a snow bridge – with the melting snow didn't trust trying to cross on it. A little further up the canyon we came to another snow bridge that we couldn't work around – side of the canyon had become too steep so we had to work our way back down. At one of the snow bridges where the snow had split apart you would see a blue color like we have seen in glaciers.
We saw some pretty little water falls and pools of ice cold water. Also some little spring flowers.
On the way home from the hike we saw three more caribou, licking the minerals from the side of the road.
(This was about lunch time – guess they finally woke up.)

Otherwise we took care of some general maintenance items, sat in our chairs and stared at the beautiful lake and mountains and relaxed. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
