Happy Mother's Day! We called and
wished our mothers a Happy Mother's Day before we crossed the border
into Canada Saturday. They are both Godly women and we love them
very much. We hope they had a wonderful day and many more to come!
We had sunshine coming in our windows
this morning! It was 27 degrees but warmed up quickly and we had no
problems with anything freezing up overnight. We had our own worship
time this morning and listened to Tyler's recorded message from last
week. Great message,Tyler!
We then left Claresholm and went only a
few miles up the road to our first stop at Nanton to visit the Bomber
Command Museum of Canada. When we heard of this Museum we
immediately thought of our 94 year old friend who was a pilot in WWII
and wanted to visit and get some pictures to share with him. This
reminded us that it was not only the US soldiers who fought and died
to secure our freedoms but all those like the Canadians, and other
countries who also fought that war.
The drive today was really not very
much fun. Traffic from Calgary to Edmonton was awful. Definitely
the worst we have had since St Louis and while traffic was bad in St
Louis, we traveled much shorter distances. It was a pretty drive
toay. For a large part of the day we could see the sun on the snow
covered Canadian Rockies. Very nice. We are currently in Spruce
Grove, AB.
Much to our surprise we had to revert
to PAPER maps today. With all our electronics we were rather
appalled! The lady at the Lethbridge tourist information center gave
us maps with new bypass routes for Calgary and Edmonton. Although we
keep all our GPS's updated none of them have these 2 new roads.
Admittedly the one in Edmonton didn't even have the number on it yet
when the map was printed but really.... we know there are family
members laughing now since we were forewarned to have paper available
and yes we successfully used paper.
Animals – Llamas (2), golden eagle.
That's it for today. We are tired,
need to get some rest and tomorrow we should get pretty close to the
start of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek.
I think all rest areas should at least have soft serve ice cream:)
