Today was another gorgeous day in the
northern Canadian Rockies. This area is just awesome. We decided to say here at Muncho Lake at Northern Rockies Lodge and RV
for 3 nights. We have moved every day since we left Storm Mountain
and we needed to take a little break and get some laundry and house
cleaning items done. For our RVer friends who will be on their way
to Alaska soon, we stayed here for the full hookups. We are right on
the lake, beautiful site, but the 2 provincial parks here are much
less expensive with lakeside sites just as beautiful, at $16/night if
you are OK with no hookups. We drove through both parks today and
really like them. If we return this way we will come prepared and
plan to stay at one of them. Diesel fuel here at NRL is $1.999 per
liter and Internet works well at our site but you are only allowed 20
mb in 24 hours at no charge. After that you have to pay.
All three of us needed some exercise
today, so we took Scout and hiked the trail across from Strawberry
Flats Campground up a very wide rocky stream bed/erosion area.
There was a beautiful, crystal clear stream that Scout wanted to stay in the entire hike – except for when he was playing in the snow banks.
We were surprised when we walked up on some more hoodoos – really more impressive than yesterday's. It was a good hike that we all enjoyed.

We saw multiple groups of stone sheep
today. Most were beside the road licking the salt residue.
Anyone driving through this area really needs to be on the lookout for wild life. We also saw another Caribou today.

There is a “mineral lick” area a
few miles up the road and the moose, stone sheep and caribou are
suppose to frequent that area to lick the ground for certain minerals
they need. We went there today and saw a few more stone sheep but
really need to go there at dusk or dawn (which are just a few hours
apart) so we may do that tomorrow. We would love to see another
moose and more caribou.
We came back to camp and grilled some
delicious venison/bacon burgers for supper - thanks to a special
friend who gave us the meat before we left home.
That's about it for today. We really
appreciate the email we are receiving. We miss you all!
I hope we get to hike in snow! Looks like another perfect day! 2 weeks!
