Day 25: Closer to the Border

May 9, 2014

Today we drove a huge 88 miles (mostly in the rain) from Great Falls to Shelby, MT. We had some business to handle, reservations to complete for future plans in Alaska and needed to cook up some of the food in the freezer before crossing the boarder into Canada. It seems that certain raw meats are at times not allowed into Canada so to avoid any problems we just went ahead and cooked it and the froze the cooked meat. We also had to make another Walmart run. The short drive was not without some amazing scenery – miles of “big sky” and farm land.

We have learned that a lot of the fields are used to produce barley for Busch – as in the beer maker Busch. We are at a small, quiet city campground here in Shelby tonight. There are only 2 other motor homes here so far. We have enjoyed watching the critters here. We watched about a dozen prairie dogs playing outside our window while we were eating dinner. There was also a magpie playing on the wet street after the afternoon rain.

Our plan is to cross the border into Canada tomorrow but the weather is turning cold with possibility of snow again so...we will wait and see. Hopefully we will be in Calgary by tomorrow evening.  Once we cross the border our phones and aircard will be turned off so we will be dependent on WIFI hotspots (when we can find them) to post to our blog.  We will still write daily entries but they may not be posted every day.
