April 2, 2014
Hello everyone! Here
we go again – soon! Alaska 2014! This blog is designed to be a mechanism for
our family and friends to follow along with us as we go back to Alaska. There will be days when it is very picture
intense and then days like today when – not so much. Some of you will remember that we made our
first trip to Alaska in 2006. That
blog is still up if anyone wants
to go back and review it. This trip will
be totally different. Max retired April
1, 2014 and Anne is on 6 months leave of absence so we plan to make a slow,
hopefully relaxed trip from Alabama to Alaska in our 2008 Tiffin Allegro Bay
FRED (Front Engine Diesel) motor home.
Our estimated departure date is currently 4/15/2014 but that date has
constantly changed so.... we shall see.
We think we are getting close to ready – most of the decisions have been
made but we are still working on getting the house ready for the sitters and arrangements made to look after folks at home.
We actually started planning this trip 8 years ago – about
day #2 in to our 2006 trip. That trip
was WONDERFUL but really only gave us a little taste of Alaska. We flew to Anchorage, toured by train and bus
and then cruised back. We now hope to
spend time soaking up the “real” Alaska.
We don't know exactly when we will return to the lower 48. The answer we have come to give is “when we
are done, or before the first snow.”
Once we get on the road we plan to blog daily although some days we will
not be able to post due to poor/no internet connection. We will post the back days when we again have
service. We will also have a real treat to
share with you in June when our dear friends Barry and Donna Wilson join us.
We hope you enjoy the “ride along” and if you have questions
or comments, please leave them at the end of the daily entry and we will try to
respond.
Max and Anne
