Day 2: Hiking in Tishomingo State Park

April 16, 2014

Well, yesterday we said we were going to relax and rest from the pace of the past few weeks.  So today we went hiking on part of the over 13 miles of trails here in Tishomingo State Park.  As you can see from this screen shot from the GPS receiver we hiked over 8 miles.
Not necessarily resting but definitely one of our best ways to relax.  We only saw one other couple the entire hike.  Really nice park and so quiet and peaceful.  The area around the Outcroppings Trail past the swinging bridge reminds us of Palisades Park at home.

There are lots of big rock outcroppings and caves that were formerly used by the Chickasaw Indians when they inhabited the area.

We hiked a good ways along the trail beside Bear Creek.  There has been a lot of rain and it was really flowing full and fast.  You can canoe a 6 mile section but we may pass on that right now with the water so high. We are tired tonight but definitely more relaxed.  We may even be a little sore tomorrow but it was worth it. We saw some pretty water falls and Scout played in the water every change we gave him. He seems even more tired than us.

We also found 6 geocaches while hiking.  For supper tonight we grilled some venison-bacon burgers.  Mmmm good!  (Thanks, Doug.)  We saved this especially for the trip.  Wild life report – geese, more squirrels, 2 owls and lots of big turtles on the creek.
