Day 112: Quiet Day in Haines

August 4, 2014

The forecasters missed it by a day. It was raining this morning when we woke up. Cloudy and raining. It was warmer – about 61. The good news is that by lunch the sun had come out and it was a pretty nice day. The wind was blustery making it cool enough to require a jacket.

We did more trip planing this morning and made our next reservations for Stewart, BC. Hyder, Alaska is the adjoining town and that is where we are really headed, but there is not a RV park there that we want to use. Still not sure what we will do after that, but maybe the Canadian Rockies. Partly depends on how long we stay in Hyder which partly depends on the salmon run and wildlife there.

When the sun came out we decided to ride back out to Chilkoot Lake to see if the eagles and bears were out again today. It is only10 miles to the park, but by the time we got there it looked like it would rain and we didn't see any bears. The water in the ocean was really rough today. There were a few eagles out, but the lighting wasn't good for pictures. So we came back home and cooked a nice, healthy, vegetable dinner. After that we walked back downtown to get another of the good soft serve ice cream cones. One of us has the habit of saying things just to aggravate the other of us, like, “They are are going to be closed when we get there” or “I bet they ran out of ice cream this morning.” When we got downtown there was a tiny sign in the window stating, “Closed for today only. Sorry.” Yes, he is in trouble and had to promise we would go back tomorrow! Since we didn't get soft serve ice cream, we made a peach cobbler for dessert and topped it with vanilla ice cream from our freezer.

So today was the “boring” day we had planned to have yesterday. Sorry, no pictures since there was no ice cream. Maybe tomorrow.
